Talking and Driving Proven to be Distracting, Again

Washington state happens to one of the most regulated states in the US. I know because I have live in Washington for thirty years, with a short traverse to Idaho in 2002.

In addition to being highly regulated, and oppressive, with a bureaucracy not serving the citizens, it believes that it is progressive in its efforts to curb the danger of talking and driving by requiring hands free contraptions.

This isn't even an established public safety matter as older studies have definitely shown that cell phone use while driving - hands free of other wise - is the cause of a high rate of vehicular accidents.

Maybe if Mrs. Gregoire wasn't so intent on protecting the bureaucracy she would demand better outcome from the state agencies with the emphasis on truly serving the public.

Drivers Distracted More By Cell Phones Than By Passengers

ScienceDaily (2008-12-01) -- Drivers are far more distracted by talking on a cellular phone than by conversing with a passenger in an automobile, according to a new study. The study, which used a sophisticated driving simulator, found that when drivers talk on a cell phone, they drift out of their lanes and missed exits more frequently than drivers conversing with a passenger.
